Hi.
My old Onkyo 5.1 receiver is starting to fail on me, so I'm looking for a new system.
I'd prefer a 5.1 system, but we don't use the "other 3" speakers much and could probably do fine with a 2.1 system.
The current system also takes quite a lot of space so I've started looking at integrated/mini/micro systems instead.
Note that raw power is more important than perfect sound. I use it mainly for playing music over Airtunes (mostly AACs@128 and the occasional AAC@256 from iTMS), and my preferred music covers punk rock, ska/reggae, prog rock and heavy metal. Not many classic symphonies here. It needs to be loud: If the neighbours two houses over aren't annoyed, then it's not loud enough**.
I'd also like to have nice sound watching DVDs, and - if possible - TV.
The one I like best, so far, is the Philips MCD908/12, which seems to pack a lot of punch. It also has one aux line in, which I could use for Airtunes, but another line in (for the cable TV receiver) would be nice.
I also looked at systems like the Cambridge One, but I don't really need a CD-player, and with only two line ins at the back (is that in addition to the dock or will that take one?) I've not much more connectivity because I have to add a DVD-player in addition to the Airtunes. Also, even though I guess the sound in the Cambridge is better, I'm not entirely it's loud enough.
Price does matter (though I don't have to buy at the cheapest end).
Any suggestions to something that would suit (most) of my needs?
** I don't play music loudly late in the evening or early in the morning. People doing that should be shot (in the knees) and have their stereos confiscated.
