While my mac was open someone in a chair in front of me bumped into it, damaging the open reverse of the LCD (aka the panel with the apple logo), putting an unsightly dent in it but the LCD itself remains fine. It's cosmetic damage for sure but I'd like to get just that back panel repaired or replaced. I've seen places charging $700 for the complete LCD and panel assembly but I find it hard to believe that the back panel itself isn't available separately. Is it? Can anyone provide a link? Been looking for about two months since this happened and can't find any resources at all.

Ifixit doesn't seem to have it. Oddly, they have the expensive display panel but not the back cover assembly with it it seems. Anyone know the "part" name for the back of the display?

There isn't one.. Its all one piece, you won't find just the cover on its own. Sorry, you're gonna have to buy a whole display.
