I have a couple firepod's and a PGDMK6 drum mic kit and a 57.
I want a nice (pair) vocal microphone, full sized condenser. They for mostly male vocals, it would be great if they could double as drum overheads. :) I want to spend around $200 each.

I was looking at a Studio Projects B1, and the Audio Technica 2020 and the 3035. I honestly don't know what to look for, so some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

AT2020. i like it more than the 3035, actually.

until you can drop $$ on the shure ksm32, i'd stick with the 2020.

probably decent. i haven't used them in that role. they take EQ better than most cheap condensers.

I was looking at Zzounds and they have the AT2041 pack for $100, blemished. Would it be wise to get that and a second AT2020 for savings?

Also, anyone know if microphones typically get tones of duty on them when crossing to Canada?

i haven't used that mic. perhaps someone else here has?

Well, it is the AT2020 and a AT2021, for less then the cost of the AT2020, so I figure I can't really go wrong with it.

I just need to figure out how to get it up to Thunder Bay.

oh, i see. if they're in working condition, why not? i've not used the 2021, so i can't comment on it, but it seems like a good deal.

zim I have seen you suggest that at 2020 so much that you have me seriously considering getting one. I want to ask you this though, would you still recommend it up against the at 4040?

If you can get hold of the AT 40** series for second hand I'd recommend them.
They don't add too much color to the sound and the quality was always good for me (only ever used them for vocals) back when I used to use them.

what do you mean when you say "if I can get hold of the AT....."for second hand"?

you mean used?

if so, why do you recommend it only if I can get it used?

I think the 40 series are more expensive (better quality) than the 30s or 20s. So looking at your price point, you wouldn't be able to get them new.
But they're very good. So buying a "used" mic for less than half the price may be beneficial to you. That's all.
