Looking for the space shoot'em up game that has heavy metal music in it

Yeah, exactly. I remember playing this game a year or two ago and now that I have finally sorted my PayPal out, I'd like to buy it. But what's the name of the game? (lol) I remember that it was played from left to right, it had upgradeable space ships and probably C64-inspired heavy metal music in it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

edit. actually I think the correct term would be sidescroller, not shoot em up but whatever...

A newer-ish game that is a space shooter is Beat Hazard and you can play your own music and the game determines patterns, bosses, effects from the music. Metal music is harder though due to all the insane sound in it but fun game. Unsure if it's available for Mac though =) sorry.
