I bought a Belkin silicone sleeve for my third-generation iPod Touch, which I just got one week ago. There were no directions in the box; I mention this because directions would've been helpful both for putting on the clear plastic cover (Belkin calls it the ClearScreen Overlay) for the front of the iPod Touch and especially for attaching the hand strap to the silicone sleeve (which I still haven't figured out how to do; my one semi-successful attempt came undone unbelievably easily). I had some difficulty getting the overlay onto the face of the iPod Touch. I probably handled it more than was ideal and got an unnecessarily large number of fingerprints on it (again, directions would've been helpful). But even recognizing that I could maybe have done better, I'm still amazed at how bad it looks-- there are ugly round spots ranging from tiny to large (~1cm diameter) over about 30 to 40% of the screen. Also, I was not able to completely peel one of the paper tabs off of the plastic cover, so there is a bunch of residue in the lower right corner (think of scotch tape that doesn't come completely off).

I thought that this piece of plastic would be easy to replace at Best Buy for a couple of US dollars. But no, all I was able to get there was a ZAGG Invisible Shield which normally costs $20.99 (I got it for 19.99 since it had previously been opened). That's almost as much as the silicone sleeve cost in the first place, with the overlay included. Now that I'm home, I'm not feeling too happy about having to shell out so much money for another overlay. So I am wondering two things:

1) Does anyone know if Belkin will replace the plastic overlay under their "one-year limited warranty"? I called them but they are closed on the weekend.

2) Does anyone have tips on applying one of these overlays so that it doesn't end up looking, excuse me, god-awful? One thing I have thought of is to definitely make sure to wear latex, vinyl, or nitrile gloves next time to avoid fingerprint smudges. Any other ideas?
