I have a PB G4 800 Mhz, Combo.

After some reinstalls of OS X, some kernel panics etc. (Everything was my fault. I seriously intended to kill the System and succeeded several times) I'm thinking about formatting HD and doing a clean install of OS X. But is it a necessity? Will it run faster? Are there any traps or tricks on the way? Any info is appreciated.

Also: If I max out the RAM (currently 512 Mb), what will change? Do you have experience? Difference in seconds/minutes of loading time?
