Looking forward to the iPhone 7 Compact?

My wife has a 5S at the moment and loves it. She has had an iPhone since the iPhone 3g and really doesn't want to consider anything else. She is really hacked off at the size of the iPhone 6 never mind the 6 Plus.

As far as she is concerned they are too big (certainly for her smaller, ladylike hands). She can't see where she can go from here and feels that her option to upgrade has gone.

Anyone else wondering if Apple will at some point launch an updated iPhone at a smaller size? If you look at all the Android manufacturers they all carry a "Mini" in their line with similar functionality but a smaller screen.

Apple carry a small phone... The 5s or 5c. There's no requirement for an updated 5s when the 5s is already a very good and capable phone. It's not that different to the 6, so no I don't think they'll release an iPhone compact or mini anytime soon. The manufacturers that do this often churn out poor specs compared to their flagships with poor screens and poor cameras in comparison yet the 5s is still, as I said, a brilliant device for many.

Are we seriously already talking about the next generation of iPhone? This is as bad as talking about the next presidential election about 10 minutes after the current one ends. If your wife likes the 5S size, she'll have plenty of opportunity to get new ones for CHEAP once the 6 and 6+ become the status quo.

Android "mini" are 4.6" or bigger! They are all low end technology except the Samsung Alpha and the Sony Z3 Compact. It the around the same size as the iPhone 6 give a mm or two difference. High end smartphones are only going up in size; not down. There is no advantage in having a small screen! If you want to get a 4" model; get another 5S! It will probably be gone in the next model cycle and no replace with another 4" size.

Samsung just announced the biggest Phablet; a 7" model in 2015! So you can see the trend is just going up!

The 5S is a year old. The 5C is two years old (it is just a 5 in a plastic shell)

In a year they will be another year old and really in need of an update.

I assume there will be an offering under 4.7 in the future. I think there will be people, casual users who will still go with the 5S

Really? Because the 4S has been on sale until the keynote on Tuesday... and that was released in 2011. So the 5s, that already has 64bit technology (remember when they said it was future proof) built in. It will be fine for many years to come, by that time most people will have accepted that phone screen size is getting bigger, and will be more used to the 4.7 option or larger (It's only .7mm larger, hardly a huge obstacle to overcome). Besides now they've made the phone thinner, and given buyers larger screen sizes one future route Apple must be considering is simply smaller top/bottom bezels which is bound to happen at some point as internal device technology becomes smaller and smaller.

The 5s has at least another 3 years life left in it if Apple want it to, which going by the 4s lifespan, they quite possibly do.

Maybe the iPhone 7 will be a flip phone. Like the BlackBerry Style.
