I have sold a few bits and pieces and now have enough spare cash to buy either a 2nd hand Mac Pro or a new iMac. Personally I'd prefer the Mac Pro due to the expandability and being able to have 2 identical displays, etc but what should I be realistically be looking to pay for a 2008 4 Core 2.8GHz?

Would a 2008 4 core Mac Pro perform better than the new 24" iMacs or would the iMacs be better?

I don't really do anything too taxing apart from a bit of video editing but my main past time is web developement.

Thanks in advance

Four-core Mac Pros used to show up in the Refurb Store from time to time for $1999. I wouldn't pay more than that, and if you're willing to wait, it would be worth keeping an eye on the refurb store. You might get lucky and see a refurb pop up in that configuration for a good price, full warranty, etc.

It might be hard to find 2008 4 core Mac Pro's as the were BTO. You might get lucky, but I don't think that there were a lot of them around.
