I have an 3g iphone and I'm looking to jailbreak it. It has 4.2.1 on it and firmware is 05.15.04. I've tried usin greenpois0n gp_win_rc6.1, but I guess I'm doing something wrong. :(

Just read that greenpois0n won't work on a 3g. Now I know why it didn't work.

So what's the best way to jailbreak a 3g iphone?

Having a little trouble. I downloaded the ios 4.2.1 firmware but when I go into redsn0w it doesn't find the ipsw file.

Got it to work. My browser was downloading the file as a zip file, not a ipsw.

Just as a heads up, the iPhone 3G with jailbroken iOS 4.2.1 is really really slow. With Winterboard especially, the phone almost becomes unusable. I've been on and off jailbroken iOS 4.2.1 on my 3G, but ultimately decided to go with the un-jailbroken iOS 4.2.1. I just couldn't find anything within Cydia to justify the utter sluggishness. Try it out for yourself, and if you don't like it you can always restore it. Just make sure to backup with iTunes before you start anything.

Did a backup right before I did the jailbreak. I don't plan on adding too many things on my phone, but there are a couple of features I wanted to try. Thanks for the help.
