Hi Guys,

I’m new to the forum and don’t have much knowledge on Apple products. I’m looking to purchase a new laptop and was wondering if the MacBook Pro is the right choice. Daily uses will consist of downloading large software applications and programming with bit of video editing. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a 15 inch MacBook Pro is the thing to go for. What do you do with these large apps you download? Coding can be done on almost anything testing that code in a large app that’s a different matter. You may want to get an Ethernet adapter as well if that’s the case WiFi still won’t beat wired for down load speeds

Appreciate the reply, what I meant was downloading large software such video editing, netbeans etc. Also preferably looking at a 13 inch screen.

Just downloading it?? Or actually using it? Pretty much anything can download any app running it well is another matter entirely.

Well a 15 inch screen is often preferred by developers but the 13 inch dual cores should be powerful enough.

I'm waiting for the new year and a possible announcement of a MBP with 32 gig of RAM. Otherwise , pro users could stick with anything from late 2013 4 cores maxing out to 16 gig RAM, Solid State drive and highest CPU.

The current MBP is interesting for the multiple high speed ports.
