Hi,

I'm looking to update my mid-2009 MacBook Pro with an SSD 80GB 2.5IN. Would I be looking for SATA or SATAII drives? My current hard disk drive has a link speed in the system profiler of 3 Gigabit and is negotiated at 1.5 Gigabit, so I assume that I'm good for SATA 2, correct?

Jep, SATA 2 it is

I'm in the same boat myself, but thinking of upgrading my Mid 2009 MBP to a OCZ Vertex 2. Haven't had any luck finding clear instructions for the whole process though. It seems fairly complex from the swapping processes to updating the firmware on the SSD...

Really? I never knew that. My Mid '09 had a SATA II drive in it when I got it, and has one in it now. I haven't had any problems.

I had terrible beachballs with my replacement WD SATA2 and EFI1.7. Reverted to EFI 1.6 and loving the Crucial M4 512GB.
