Folks:

10+ years ago I bought a 500GB Acomdata External HD for backup. It's got a slow 7200 RPM drive that I connect to my 2019 iMac via USB 1.1. UGH....painfully slow. I know it's the USB connection that is the bottleneck.

Because the case works well, as does the interface card, my thought is to open it up, drop in a 1 or 2 TB same form factor HD.

For that to work on my iMac (2019), please confirm what cabling I would need. I assume I would need a Firewire 400 to Thunderbolt 2 (if that exists) then a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3.0. WAIT! Wouldn't be a waste since Firewire 400 speeds don't exceed the USB 3.0 that the iMac has....and I should just go Firewire 400 (drive) to USB 3.0 (iMac)?

I'm reading that Firewire 400 = 393 Mbit/s and USB 3.0 is 5 Gbit/s. If accurate, shouldn't I try to go Firewire to USB 3.0????

Disregard. Will delete post. I just found a 2TB USB 3.0 Seagate external for $49.00 with a coupon. I don't think I could have retro-fitted the above 12-year-old drive for any less--and would have slower responses.
