I'm trying to create a looping DVD. This was real easy to do in Final Cut Studio with DVD Studio Pro but the new Final Cut Pro X dispenses with this application. Compressor doesn't seem to have this function.

It's pretty ridiculous that I might have to install a consumer app -- iDVD -- to be able to do such a common and rudimentary function not available on a professional application.

Am I missing something in Compressor or FCPX?

I thought iDVD was installed at purchase of computer?
You can try a 70$ app like Toast.

Thanks for your answers so far. Given that Apple has discontinued Final Cut Studio and replaced it with Final Cut Pro X, Compressor and Motion as the only apps to move forward, and given that many of the functions from the non replaced apps have been moved into the new ones, you'd expect basic functions to be available.

This only underlines how half assed this effort has been by Apple. DVD Studio Pro is no longer for sale so either you had it before or you simply have to go to a third party to author DVDs.

I agree. However, Apple has replaced it with nothing. Professionals still need to produce content. If not for optical media, then at least provide us with tools for iTunes Extras and iTunes LP.

nice. however stating FCPX as DVD Authoring tool compared to DVDSP is kinda stretching it dont you think?
The professionals know what to use when it comes to DVD Authoring and Im pretty sure their not looking at a NLE for such thing.
Try Encore from the CS package if you cant get around using Apple products.
Then you will realize how much you will miss DVDSP :)
