I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 15" which I took into the Apple store for a repair. I had to purchase a new machine and while copying files to the new machine, the Apple Genius Bar thunderbolt cable came out of my old laptop 3 times.

An Apple manager checked with some technical person at Apple HQ who said that even if I have never used it, because I'm transporting the computer around, the connector can loosen up. I have never heard of such a thing? Has anyone else?

Not likely... but you'll never know. It's also possible that their cable had a bad connector from being used thousands of times. Did you test with another cable?
