Loose Thunderbolt Port

I've got a 2014 MBP. I have a 2nd display in one thunderbolt port and an external drive in the other. They both worked well for about a year. Now the port with the external drive randomly disconnects the drive without being moved. I've googled this and see that it's a common problem. I've purchased new cables, same result. You can just feel how loose the cable is when connected to the MBP. The cable in the external drive is nice and snug.

Just wondering what others who've had this issue have done. Is it worth it to contact Applecare? Been also thinking about getting a docking station and plugging everything into that.

Any ideas are welcome.

If it's within warranty just get apple to fix it.

A thunderbolt docking station may well make your work flow easier anyway but I would still get your port fixed under applecare, remember they will fix any other issues they find as well, so it's worth it.
