I have an iPhone running s/w version 1.1.1 and have a problem with email attachments. I can get an excel file or word doc onto the iPhone as an attachment and can open it no problems...but then the next time I go into Mail, it reads "This message has not been downloaded from the server" in the text area and I loose the attachment...even though it still has the paperclip icon to indicate the mail has an attachment.
Syncing with the mail account does not help the problem, even if the mail is in the mailbox. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try force quitting mail (hold the Home button down).
Try rebooting (scratch disk can become full).

Cheers,
Greg
