Not sure if anyone has had this experience. I went to the Century City Mall to purchase a phone and see what they had in stock. I waited on the outside line (wasn't too long). They had every single phone in stock for walk in purchasing, which I couldn't believe. And was excited. But there was a catch. They were only allowing walk-ins to pay for the phone outright. No trade ins, Apple Payment Program, iPhone Upgrade Program, anything. I contacted Apple Support who said I should have spoken to a manager as it is against policy, but the rep informed me that every store in LA does this for 2 weeks? Has anyone ever heard of this? Quite frustrating to wait, have the phone in stock, but only be able to purchase as pay in full.

never heard of this. I've been to several iPhone launch periods in both Glendale stores, the Mall and Americana, The Grove and Sherman Oaks.

About 3 or 4 years ago this happened to me at the Manhattan Grand Central Apple store. I was interested in the new iPhone (I forgot which year, it was probably the 6 or 6s), it was about a week in and from what I had seen on the Internet it was still very hard to get a new phone. When I went there, they too said they had plenty in stock for people willing to pay in full - the sales girl specifically said they keep them on hand for those buyers as it's a more lucrative deal for them or something.

Actually, this is not a strange situation. It makes sense because the demand is higher than the supply (supply demand law) and a business wants to get a profit (business nature, unless the store does not care about the profitability).
