Resolved Losing Capacity on External Hard Drives with Different Formatting

Due to an error of mine pointed out in this thread, I would delete this thread if that was possible.

I assume your "800 GB" used is a typo.

The rest is most probably just down to differences in formatting and EFI partitions.
Run the command "diskutil list" without quotation marks in Terminal and see what it says about your partitions.

No, the 800 GB loss is not a typographical error. I have two 2 TB external USB 3.0 hard drives with 40% of their advertised capacity lost with formatting to OS X.

- I'm seeing 800 MB on that screenshot.
