Losing event dates when transferring pictures from old MacbookPro to new MacbookPro

Hey, I transferred all my pictures from my old MacBook Pro to my new one using an external hardrive and unfortunately lost all of the event dates that had been present in iPhoto on my old computer. I haven't deleted anything from the old computer yet, so if there's a way to keep all that information I can still do it. Anyone know how to do this?
