I have a 2018 13” MacBook Air running 10.14.4. If I plug any aftermarket accessory in either of the USB-C ports, the internal sound is sometimes disabled and only the chime indicating that the power supply has been plugged in remains. I have three aftermarket accessories—an SD card adapter, a USB3 adapter and a MagSafe type adapter. The only way to get sound back is to reboot the computer. I’ve reported this to Tech Support but have not received any information if or when it will be fixed.

Apple elected to not provide any direct means of using media such as SD cards and USB thumb drives forcing users to purchase adapters from aftermarket vendors. The least Apple can do is ensure that the use of adaptors doesn’t cause issues for the users.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or is my laptop defective?
