I own a 2014 11" MBA operating under Sierra 10.12.5. For the past month I have been frequently loosing audio out through the internal speakers on the laptop. When this occurs, internal speakers no longer shown as a selection in Preferences Sound. I have tried quitting coreaudiod in Activity but this does not seem to work. To restore audio, I have found I have re-set the SMC.

Any thoughts as to what I can do to stop loss of audio?

When you check SysPrefs, are the mic and camera missing, too? On our 2013 13-in MBA, sound/mic/camera. Turns out it was something called an I/O board. Easily diagnosed at Apple Store - about $130 to get fixed.

Hi Mike,

Good suggestion. Next time I lose the internal speakers I will check the other devices as well.
