I recently acquired an iPhone 7 Plus and also an iphone 4S, which is handy for when I don't want to risk taking the newer phone somewhere. One of the features I really like is the voice dictation capability, but for some reason, it stopped functioning. Nothing happens when I push the microphone icon, and it doesn't matter which app I'm in. My suspicion is that either through my mistake or some anomaly, it's been turned off. I've tried changing those few settings that might seem obvious to a new iPhone user, but I haven't had any success. Any ideas of what happened, or how I can get it back? I've also powered off the phone, but that didn't work. The phone has iOS 9.3.5.

Bingo! I was in fact trying to dictate a note at a mall where I was not connected to the net. I just tried it at home while connected and it worked. Thank you. BTW, I have a cat that is the spitting image of your avatar :)
