Sometime after synching yesterday all my contacts disappeared. I thought the contacts would reappear after resynching but no luck...and now the restore backups is from the new one with no contacts. Stupidly, I haven't consistently consistently backed up my restore file so the last one is from 2010...is there any way to get back the contacts using iTunes?
Also, how can I find the root of this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I am assuming you don't have the contacts in any kind of address book on the computer right?

If most of your contacts are in that 2010 backup you can do the following..

Restore to your 2010 backup.
Synch the contacts to a program on your computer.
Restore to your current backup
Sync the contacts from your computer to your phone.
