There is a ring that sits at the bottom of the top - it was loose for while and I slotted it back a few times (should have glued it). Anyway, it’s lost now so although the top still sits on top of the pencil magnetised it’s slightly wobbly.

Anyway, does anyone know how to buy a new top or get that ring? You think they will have it to give away at a store?

I doubt Apple sells the metal rings separately, but what I would do, is go to an Apple store and explain your situation and see what they may offer to you. Or check eBay and see if there’s any type of metal ring for sale.

There are replacements on sale on amazon so worst case ill buy from there. Ill pop into apple store, they may have the whole top spares in back as giveaways for customers who lost them - hopefully.

Interesting. I didn’t realize Amazon sold the metal rings separately. I’m assuming they are not OEM parts, but third-party. If Apple has any in stock to give away or sold, that would be my first option as well. But none the less, at least you’re able to find a replacement ring if need be.

Amazon don’t sell the rings. Just the whole top.

I went to Apple and thought they might give me a top for free... nope, charged £8, probably would be $8 in USA.

I would have got 4 for the same price from amazon but non genuine ... but as being there and going through genius process etc it was easier to say ok and just pay rather than order from amazon..

He said if was under a year old it would have been covered under warranty.

Oh well, done.
