Hello there

I found an Apple Watch on the street. Is there a way to find their owner? It’s asking for a PIN but I’m scared if I try guessing it, it might block the Watch.

Worth a shot:

Otherwise, I don't think you have any great options. You said you found it on the street. Is there a place of business right there that perhaps you could go to and see if they'd be willing to hold onto the watch for a week or so in case the owner backtracked and started inquiring if people had found a watch?

There is no medical ID, unfortunately. And it was found by the sea, no businesses around. I'll try to pair it once it is fully charged, maybe it will show the apple ID.

The Watch is not detected when I try to pair it.

It’s so sad, there’s nothing I can do, unless the owner marks it as lost & send a message with a contact number.
Unfortunately, you need to be a bit tech savvy to know how to do it.

It should be highlighted as a tutorial as losing a Watch can happen to anyone.

There are some websites that propose for a fee to unlock it for a fee but that looks shady.

Well, I’ll keep it charged for the weekend and will bring it to the lost & found or the police station.

And I think it’s pointless I call Apple, they won’t care and see it as a potential new sale.

good, behavior I would have expected. Cause if you would have been able to get any data from that AW it would be a major privacy/security concern. Turning it to lost/found or police is the right cause of action

Yes, but there should be a way to contact the rightful owner. Police is more busy on more serious things, I believe.

I reset the Watch, I can see the Apple ID but just the first letter. So yes I’ll go to the police as there is nothing much we can do about it.

What would you expect Apple to do? Give the owner's personal information to a complete stranger? Facilitate a meeting between you and the owner?

You never see a complete Apple ID when any device has been reset (for privacy and security reasons). Definitely hand it over to the Police, if FindMy is active (still) maybe the owner will see that it's at the station and will collect it.

That's still facilitating, and if something goes wrong and it hits the headlines that's a PR nightmare for Apple.

Have you never heard of Find My? Apple has an entire system dedicated to helping people find their lost Apple devices. So obviously that's evidence that they do care, as they wouldn't have such a system in place if they didn't want people to be able to find their lost devices.
