lost email addresses in MS Entourage '04

I screwed up when Entourage said, "This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage." Following MS's solution, I created a new identity but it didn't automatically import any addresses/contacts for me. Opened an old backup figuring to copy and paste into the new identity. That didn't work because the backup was so old that most addresses had changed over the years -- and I couldn't find the previous recent identity either.

If the previous identity is still available, how do I find it and restore addresses to the new identity?

Perhaps I am not understanding this clearly. You are trying to reload Entourage or something? Either way, this article may help:
