NameChanger is a freeware re-naming application.

I had a bunch of mpegs that I put is sequence by adding numbers after the file name. For instance, 10a.mpg became 10a.mpg001. Next I added .mpg to the file so now we have 10a.mpg001.mpg.

Now I began to remove the first part character by character. This is the good part. I removed all the 1's, and 2's, and all the other numbers from the front of the files and should have had a folder full of files named .mpg001.mpg etc. Nope, I had an empty folder. Yes, over a hundred files gone.

A remotely related item from a google search included mention that our beloved finder can not see files beginning with a period. I never knew that, but maybe that's why my files are gone.

Now what? X-ray specs?

I hope this makes sense.
