I recently did a fresh OS install of my mac. I knew that everything was safely backed up on my external drive (through time machine). However, for some reason my filevault home folder ISN'T showing up on the external drive. I am quite certain the files are there, it's just my mac can no longer read them it seems....Is there any way to recover this data or am I screwed?

Note the section titled "Use FileVault" in this article. FileVault protected directories can only be restored by restoring the whole system. You cannot restore individual files and folders through the normal Time Machine interface.

I tried that. The restore works fine, and then I go to login and it gets an error. I have a feeling for some reason time machine DIDN'T backup my home folder......I swear it's something to do with filevault, because to test it i did another backup with filevault turned off and it copied over the home folder fine.

I had the same problem.

Restore worked but couldn't logon.

I just gave up in the end and did a fresh install.

Didn't lose too much data luckily
