I lost all icons that should appear on the upper right corner of the Finder window tool bar-Spotlight, time, Wi Fi signal icon, volume icon etc.

I also can't open Adobe Elements, reinstalled but still can't open

Also can't open Text Edit and I had several text edit icons on the desktop for specific notes, the title of the note is still there but the icon is a blank rectangle and I can't open any of the notes--had 1 hour session with Mac help and it didn't help

I believe that the toolbar issue involves your Preferences folder in ~/Library. I suggest moving that to your desktop and seeing if that resolves it.

I had a user with the same issue. One of the com.apple.... plist files is more then likely the cause. After digging up an old e-mail from one of my users, it's "com.apple.systemuiserver.plist"
