lost hard drive and can't install

Just lost my hard drive and I dont have the install disc for my mac that came with it.

Is there anyway to get my hands on a copy to install the os x again

Get the 19 USD Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD from the Apple Online Store and do a clean install on a new (?) and properly formatted HDD.

Do you have any kind of backup? And what do you mean with "lost"?
