I created an Imovie made of still shots and music. I moved the icon of the movie onto my desktop and it disappeared from Imovie. When I click on the Icon on my desktop only the application comes up but no movie. I have tried to move the icon back into Imovie but it won't accept it. I fear I have lost the Imovie I spent many hours on.....can someone help me retrieve it?

iMovie is the name of the software and not the name of a movie you create with that software.

What iMovie and Mac OS X version do you use?

Can you look up the info (Get Info > CMD+I) on that file on your Desktop and see how big it is and what file type it is?

From where you dragged in iMovie to the Desktop?

To properly export a movie made in iMovie there are several options to do that via the Menu Bar > File.

Have you also taken a look via Finder in Macintosh HD > Users > You > Movies > iMovie and seen what data is there?

I suppose you're new to Mac OS X, thus have a look at the following links, as the information presented there might be helpful in your future endeavours into Mac OS X and could clear up initial confusion and may even prevent harm to your system or your files.
