So playing around with the AirTags, I've realized it might not be that intuitive as I thought for some random person to recover your info, unless they use effort.

Will the average person know they have to tap the white side at the very top of the iPhone?

I just figured that if you put it in Lost Mode, a pop-up would appear on another user's iPhone with the lost info, after a period of time. Or does a pop-up actually show after x amount of time with clear instructions to access lost info?

Side Note .... Android users can also get the Lost Info from your AirTag. I tried it with my Fold 2, but I had to place the the white side at the middle of the phone. I guess it depends exactly where the NFC is.

the only hope is that with the power of apple things like airtags will become common place (like airpods etc.) vs. tile which is pretty niche. in time people might learn how better to use their NFC functionality and what the airtags are for, in the same way as the pandemic taught the whole world how to use their phone camera to scan qr codes when before in my experience very few ever knew how or did.

Given Apple have always locked down NFC and never really used it, its probably only iPhone users that don't know what it is.. Android users have been sharing playlists and other info using NFC for years..

You will have to hops an Android user finds your lost Tag :)

The bigger issue is if someone finds it before you realize you have lost it!

Ahh I didnt think the NFC would work at all until in lost mode, but I guess its passise so it has to.. I had never tried it..

Its a pity you can have a default message in the Tag while not in lost mode..

I'm also starting to wonder, is this why AirTag holders leave the middle exposed? Maybe so people can easily tell the white side from the silver side.

I purchased a cheap $5 silicone AirTags holder from Amazon, but it covers the entire AirTag. Maybe I would be better off getting a holder that exposes the middle.
