Lost iPhone Sound

All of a sudden today my iPhone is acting strange, the start up and shut down sounds have stopped. Even the calculator sound is gone. I have sync'd and did a hard reset, but nothing is working. The volume is turned all the way up. I have sound for my songs but all my apps have no sound and adjusting the volume doesn't do anything, doesn't even show the volume bar.

Any help would be great.

Boy do I feel stupid.....it seems somehow my ringer switch was activated, which muted the sounds. Doh!

All works now.

What I mean by start up and shut down sounds, are the sounds from sliding the unlock switch and pressing the power switch.
