Today I plugged in my iPod for a giant sync (I haven't synced it in six months), and it downloaded some new software and reset the iPod (I let it, because new software is good, right?). I had four paid apps, all of which are gone. I've lost under $10, so I'm not that upset, but it's irritating that I can't just re-download them the way you can with Steam or other downloadable game services. From what I understand, I cannot get them back.
Is there a way I can get these back, or am I done with them?
This is incredibly irritating, I will not be buying anything on the App store after this. I'm willing to waste a little money on dumb games, but not if Apple isn't even willing to let me re-download things that I own after they wipe my iPod.
Why should I pay for any of their software? The next time Apple releases a software product I actually want, it's getting pirated.
