I bought a used Macbook on Craigslist last year for my cousin. He lost it, believes it was stolen. Didn't get any paperwork with the laptop and didn't write down the serial number. Now I need to find the serial number to file a police report.

I replaced the hard drive a few months ago and cloned the old HD before changing it, so I still have everything that was on the old HD. So the question is:

Where might I look on the cloned HD for the serial number of the missing laptop? Would it be somewhere in the user library? Or can you only access it when the physical laptop is present?

Besides it being on the MacBook physically, you can find the serial number by going to About This Mac and under the large letters Mac OS X it has Version 10.x.x in gray. Double click that line that says Version 10.x.x. It changes from version to build to sn.

Physical laptop only. It will not be found on the old HDD.
