A few months ago, I was having problems with cell reception. The Apple "Genius" recommended that I erase my phone and set it up as new. When I did, it screwed up my Longest Move Streak. As of today, it should be 3406 days, but instead it is 466 days. Apple subsequently had me try numerous things such as delete all Health activity and let it resync with iCloud. Unfortunately, that didn't work. What's odd, is that if I go into the daily records in the Fitness app, I can scroll back and see every workout since I first bought an iphone in 2015. And yet, the oldest data showing in activity on the Health app is August 14, 2023.

Needless to say, I'm upset about losing my streak. You don't have a streak of 3406 days unless it is important to you! I've tried everything Apple suggested along with a few other things I could think of, but no luck. Any ideas on how to recover those lost days??

I've had some weird things going on the past week or so (posted in the news article yesterday about all 3 rings closed).
It looks that mine is correct again at 3,243 days, so I can relate losing it.

I assume you have "Save to iCloud - Health" enabled?
Did you get your 3,250 move goals badge?
so 466 days ago was Aug 13 2023 according to google, you're saying you can only go back to Aug 14, I assume that is in the "calendar view" in the fitness app. Have you cross-checked the activity view in the Health app?
What was the date of erasing your phone?

Since I'm a little behind you, for reference, my Health data on my iPhone is 2.88GB, in iCloud its 587MB (it's compressed there) - what does your show?

Another thought: in the Health app, Activity, data sources - does it show all the AWs you ever had? mine does: S0/3/4/7/U/U2. Some might appear more than one which would be due to un-pair/re-pair.

Did you get your 3,250 move goals badge? No, I did not. The last move badge I received was 500 move goals.

Have you cross-checked the activity view in the Health app? Yes, and it does not match the workouts in the calendar view. Basically, most of the activity data prior to 8/14/23 is gone (again, gone only in the Health app, it is there in Calendar View). I need a way to sync the data in calendar view with what is in the Health app.

What was the date of erasing your phone? I don't the exact date, but it was last March.

Health data on my iPhone is 2.88GB, in iCloud its 587MB - what does your show? 1.82GB on phone, 968.9 in iCloud

in the Health app, Activity, data sources - does it show all the AWs you ever had? Probably. I recall having 5 watches and there are 10 sources listed. Unfortunately, the only ones I can identify are the two I currently use - AW6 and Ultra. All the other sources just say MyName Apple Watch.

Thanks for the great questions!

Here are screenshots that demonstrate the problem. The first screenshot shows none of the rings being closed, but the second shows workouts for that same day.

to the best of my knowledge that Activity/Fitness app does not store any data, it's all in the health app.
So in the Health app, Activity - when you tap on the Fitness icon (the one with the rings) it pops up a calendar - look at the dates in question and see if it is the same as the activity app.

on the phone - Settings, General. iPhone storage, Health - at the bottom Data Sources, takes maybe a minute to display, but does it show data for all the 10 AWs that are listed? Mine lists the various watches and the amount of data.

Do you recall anything related to your AW or phone that happened in that Aug 2023 timeframe? like an un-pair/re-pair, a new watch, an new phone or anything like that?

Some other thought: how did you delete your health data if you recall?
There was a thread here a while ago where someone wanted to delete all the health data on purpose, there were a lot of steps involved, I was advising against… but they were successful eventually if I recall.

As you know health data is backed up/sync’d with iCloud and my interpretation of that relationship is that deleting data on your phone will delete the data in iCloud when you deliberately delete on the phone, not if you erase and setup a phone.
I think that might have happened to you, I could be wrong of course and it is odd that you did this in March or later that you still have data back from Aug 23.

I never knew about the calendar in Health. Anyway, when I select dates prior to August 2023, it shows no data. I also notice that the calendar only goes back to Aug 2021, and that makes me wonder what happened to the data dating back to 2015.

It's possible there was an un-pair/re-pair, but I don't recall. Every watch and iphone I've bought have been in September (at introduction).

how did you delete your health data if you recall? I did it following the instructions of an Apple support person. As I recall, it was: Settings>Apps>Health>Data Access & Devices>Health>Delete All Data from "Health" Her thought was that deleting it from the phone would force it to reload from iCloud and thereby retrieve the missing data. Good idea, but it didn't work.

The Apple support person guaranteed my that deleting it from the phone would not delete it from iCloud. Before I deleted the data from the iPhone, the oldest data was August 2023. After you delete the data, iCloud slowly puts it back on your phone. A day later, all the data was back, but again, only back to the exact same date in August 2023.

What is really odd, it that there are random dates in the past that show data. For example, September 20-24, 2021 shows activity. As an experiment, I have tried adding move data to a 2023 data that didn't have any Health>Active Energy>Add Data. When I do that, the added calories show in the Active Energy tab, but still don't show in the Activity tab.

I am not aware that one can look up the health data in iCloud, Apple should b able to.
After all this, the only thing I can think of is that there is some kind of data corruption that causes this, but that is a guess.
AFAIK the Health data on the phone is stored as plain text, there are tools/apps out there that let you export the data into like .xls or .csv, I've done that several years ago but do not recall what app I used, but you can search on the App Store for those, or, I seem to remember a thread or more here asking for that, so searching the forum might result in something.
You could try to escalate your issue to engineering support as they have not been able to resolve this for you.

well, maybe, how did you setup your AW? as new or from a backup? maybe un-pair/re-pair and set up as new, but never mind, health data is not stored on the AW, only phone.
you said you already erased your phone once, did you set it up as new or restore from backup? If restore, you might try to do it over again but set it up as new ...

I think it's gone. I had a lot of issues it the past with Apple services (especially with CloudKit Core Data), so I don't believe in any of "The Apple support person guaranteed my that deleting it from the phone would not delete it from iCloud" statements.

I am very sorry for your lost data, but it's time to move forward and don't rely on Apple software in the future.

P.S. To be more objective — CloudKit is more stable now than 5 years ago, but anyway.

Well if you have any engineering skills, and an old Delorean in your garage you might be able to invent a Time Machine. I don't think the dog is necessary. But if you need a test dummy, use your neighbors dog.

I’m sorry to hear about what you’re going through. I completely understand how important it is to recover your health data. I'm also one of those people with a 3,000+ move streak, so I get anxious every time I upgrade my iPhone!

You mentioned this issue started a few months ago, and the data still hasn’t downloaded. In my experience, health data can take up to a week to fully restore in both the Health and Fitness apps, so it’s unlikely that the data is still processing on the device at this point.

If you need to reset your iPhone in the future, be sure your health data is synced to iCloud. This process can typically be triggered by connecting to Wi-Fi and performing a manual iCloud backup.

A helpful tip: I always make sure to close all my rings before performing an iCloud restore.

You could also try enabling iCloud Health on another device, wait a few days for the data to process, and check back. iPadOS now has a Health app, though I’d recommend using an iPhone if possible.

All the best, and I really hope Apple didn’t inadvertently wipe your health data during their troubleshooting.

On a side note, whenever Apple Support suggests a reset, I usually refuse—9 times out of 10, it doesn’t fix the issue!

I have iCloud Health enabled on my iPad, but I'm not sure I've ever looked at it. I'll check it out and come back tomorrow and report what I find.

Now I am really confused! I checked my iPad and it does have Health installed and it is linked to iCloud. My iPhone Health app shows active calories back to May 2023, with a few random months back to 2021. My iPad Health app shows active calories back to July 2015. Both my iPhone and iPad show workouts back to July 2015. My iPhone shows rings closed back to August 2023 and my iPad shows rings closed back to January 2019. Maybe jz0309 has the answer to this mystery - data corruption. How else do you explain workout data for a date, but no data for the activity rings? The iPad is missing less data than the iPhone, so it would help if they would sync. I watched a few videos about fixing iPad-iPhone sync issues, and tried pretty much every suggestion, without success.

they both sync with iCloud, indecently, not between them afaik.
Here's what you could do: in the Health app, Summary click on your "icon" (mine shows my initials) in the upper right hand corner, scroll down to the bottom and you see an option to "export all health data". I have not done this, so don't know in which format it will export.
As I mentioned before, there are (were) apps that allow you to export in csv and/or xls, one that shows up in the App Store is Heart Reports. I have never used that app but it looks it can do css reports.

Now what would you gain out of this? I think you might find the corruption and you might be able to go to specific days and delete and re-add data, maybe. will require some time.

Or, export the data from both phone and iPad and do a comparison in Excel. Since you say you never before opened the Health app on your iPad, nor I assume you have added/deleted entries on your iPad, you iPad copy should be the match of the iCloud data. I would suspect the corruption being on the phone.

Edit: I am curious, just started the export on my iPad, doesn't give you options and it I "preparing" ... I have Excel (and Numbers) on my iPad so will take a look, when it's done ;)

Edit 2: it creates a zip file, see below. The “export” file is a xml, copying it over to my Mac now
