I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 .

I created a Disk Image and saved it to my desktop. I wanted a password protected place for my documents. Then I ejected it from my desktop. I can't recover it. Did I lose this permanently? I couldn't find any solution online. If you eject a disk image from your desktop is it gone?

No luck searching for it. I don't understand really, what happened to the disk image when I ejected it? It never came back and I can't find it.

disc image similar to dvd or cd when eject it gone until it's reloaded. if can't find using spotlight it's gone. maybe lucky find in disc utility. but to my knowledge when save to a disc image, you then burn to a cd or dvd to save.
where time machine comes in handy as go back on desktop highlight and restore.

The disk image you created may be in the Volumes directory on your hard drive. I've thought that I've 'lost' disk images before, when it turns out that I did not tell Disk Utility where to put the image, so it put it in the default directory, which is Volumes.

In Finder, do you have it set to show hidden files? It's possible there is a hidden dmg file that shows on your desktop only when it's mounted. Did you try searching in spotlight for dmg? It should turn up all the dmg files lying around your Mac.

Thank You

I was near panic mode when I thought I did something to lose the important documents!! But apple+space (my shortcut for spotlight) and searching for "dmg" showed exactly what I was looking for! Relocated it to a folder I would remember now. Thank you so much!!!!
