long story short... i lost my iphone, bought a new one today... i connected it and itunes is trying to get me to "Start a new 2 year contract" i just want to replace my old phone and phone plan? any suggestions on how to take care of this... AT&T is being horrible like always... putting me on hold for days and no one has any answers... i started my original iphone plan on July 1st and i dont feel like starting all over again, with a new plan.

July 1st is only 4 mos...

so your new contract would start from the date that you activate your NEW iPhone, I think that's what I'm hearing? You should be adamant that your phone was lost or stolen and that you are activating a "replacement phone" that happens to be an iPhone. Always ask to speak to a "supervisor" or "manager" since the common CSR won't give you the time of day, without putting you on hold and conferring with the two or three managers hovering over your call. AT&T is infamous for putting you on hold and going through a checklist as to "how they are doing this JUST FOR YOU!" and no one else. Eventually, you'll get what you want, but it has to clear about 3-4 hurdles! Also realize that you may be looking at an $18-$36 activation fee for a NEW phone.

I think this is a bigger issue than i anticipated... if i lose my iphone i have to restart a "New 2 year contract" that is WRONG in so many ways... i understand if i lose a Razr or any other type of phone and replace it with an iPhone ... then that totally makes sense... but im replacing a Lost/Stolen iPhone with a new iPhone and they want to me re sign up for 2 years. At this rate i will never finish my 2 year contract.

well so i finally got something to go through. I bought my iphone at the Apple Store and tried activating there with my MacBook Pro and well everything was fine and great til it got to the point where i had to pick my plan and agree to a new 2 year contract. So i asked an employee and he said i should talk to At&T. So i drive to the Nearest AT&T shop and ask them about it. "you need a new 2 year contract" apple requires it... so they both are just kinda pointing the finger at the other... pisses me off.

i go home pissed off at this point thinking how did this just get so difficult!!!

get on the phone with AT&T and Customer Service Rep says "I totally understand ... can i please put you on hold while i get that info for you" and the prick hung up on me... at this point i am beyond mad... first person i get on the phone i ask for a supervisor and she doesnt transfer me (She tries doing it herself) so she puts me on hold for 15 minutes as she tries to find the answer. Finally she comes back on the line and tells me to go ahead and activate the new 2 year contract but that she is going to specifically note my account as begining on the 1st of July.

so i am satisfied but i have delt with AT&T in the past and i have a really bad feeling that i will be receiving a ugly bill with a new activation fee and a bunch of ********... im just waiting to see what happens now.

word of warning to anyone out there... DONT LOSE YOUR iPhone... it is the only phone that you cant replace without requiring a new 2 year contract!:mad:

I hear ya'...

and it sounds like you finally got something resembling what you wanted! Definitely watch the bill for the next three months and at the slightest change to your plan, (such as an "activation fee") call them and remind them that there is an earlier entry on my account and the following fees need to be removed. Enjoy the NEW iPhone.

Did you record that?
