My beloved old G4 is getting very full and I want to install a 2nd hard drive. I am currently using a partitioned disc with OS9.2.2 on one half and OSX 3 (panther) on the other. When moving house three years ago I lost a whole box of CD's including all my system discs - not too much of a problem up to now as it's all on my HD BUT how can I now install system software onto a new HD? can I just move it over or what?

Carbon copy cloner or super duper will make an exact copy of the drive onto the new one.

You can copy over Mac OS 9 from drive to drive - it won't complain if you do this, since a Mac OS 9 installation is pretty self-contained. Mac OS X, however is NOT self-contained at all. Trying to copy it over without using the official installer will only get you into trouble.
