Lost Preferences in OSX

Hi folks...

My plist preferences file for Mouse seem to have completely disappeared after booting into os9 then back into X. Anyone know how I can get this back short of reinstalling the entire system? And please don't say go to my backup, it's, um, ah, well, you know...doesn't really exist.
