lost product key with legitimate Office CD

I lost my case to the Office 2008 for Mac which has the product key
I have never installed the CD on my Mac. I did try copying the folder in the applications folder but it still asks for the product key, which I dont have.

Any suggestions on what to do next? Will I have to contact Microsoft or is there any way to track down my product key?

Buy another copy of Office 2008 for the Mac. Seriously, it is about your only option. The key is not embedded in the software so there is no way to recover it; it is on the sticker, which you threw away. No way Microsoft will replace it for you.

Call Microsoft. That's really all you can do if you don't just want to buy another one. Apparently it can work.
