My work email is on a MS Exchange account. My personal email is with iCloud. Naturally, I like using the Mail app and never had any problems with it before. However, since upgrading to Mavericks I'm having a lot of problems sending and receiving email.

About 40-50% of the time, when sending an email with a large attachment, it simply won't send. It will sit in my Outbox and every so often a pop-up will appear that says the message couldn't be sent and gives me the option to try again later and try again now. Sometimes it can take up to an hour for the message to finally send. I'm not talking about huge files either, I'm talking about attachments in the 1-2 MB range.

I also have a lot of trouble receiving messages, sometimes hours will go by where I won't receive any message, but if I close and reopen the Mail app suddenly they'll all appear.

I've deleted the Exchange account and re-added it. I've also Rebuilt the mailbox twice and these problems persist. What else can I try to resolve these issues? Thanks in advance.
