Hi guys,

Over the last month or so, the fan(s) on my iMac (mid 2011) have become noticeably audible. I doubt this is due to the warmer weather lately as I've not noticed this in previous years.

In the Activity Monitor, a process by the name "Isof" (or, potentially "lsof" given that the I and l are, to my eye, indistinguishable in the OS X system font), periodically appears and is consuming 98% of CPU resources - but never stays put long enough for me to force quit the process. The whole time, however, overall CPU usage is around 12% while idling.

Any ideas what this is? The sound of the fan is really winding me up...

Cheers

I believe that's an Adobe Reader Updater process.

Try opening Adobe Reader, then go to Help > Check for updates, and install the update...

See if that fixes it.

Have updated Acrobat Pro, hopefully that will fix it.

Thanks for your help. :)

i had this mac but sold it a few months, a very good iMac
but last summer the loud noise of fan became too much over the months

did take to apple but they couldn't find anything

is a common thing among iMac for some reason!

when summer past, the fan noise didn't come no more which was odd!
