I just upgraded from the early 2013 MBP to the 16" MBP and its amazing. I love the keyboard, my mother bought a 13" MBP earlier this year and I hated typing on that keyboard, I found it hard to type on. I feel that you either love or loath the butterfly keyboard. I was definitely in the loath column. That is the reason I waited so long to upgrade. The speakers on this model sound amazing versus my old machine (which sound very tinny in comparison) the sound is much richer and the bass is amazing.

It was worth the wait. Will have to wait and see if the 16" MBP will be as durable as my previous MBP.

I don't like the loss of function keys, I would rather have them versus the Touch Bar. Otherwise the 16" seems like a pretty solid upgrade. I just wanted to share my initial thoughts, to help those still on the fence if they want to upgrade. My last MBP lasted me almost 7 years, which is the longest I have ever kept a laptop. The reason for the long wait was the redesigned keyboard (butterfly).

I’m very much looking forward to updating, but I’ll hold off 6 months for new processors and wifi 6.

The new Macbook Pro is a great release. Also just upgraded from a 2013 MBP, had to wait out the butterfly nonsense. Almost moved over to a Lenovo, this latest Apple release came just in time.

Funny enough was about to upgrade to the high end MSI Prestige 15” when this came out :p

It’s been almost as long as me. I still have my mid 2011 iMac that became obsolete, due to its graphics card, once I couldn’t run Adobe anymore. And it was time. It was time for a whole new system and portability for me is much more of a necessity this time around. I can still use the large 27” as an extra display and am thinking up upgrading a few components to make it usable for me again eventually.

So I’m impatiently waiting for my base 16” MBP SG expected to arrive Tuesday. I think I’m more excited over this than my Jeep I got a few months back.

YMMV, but given that faster processors are also about to arrive, I can wait 6 months.

It’s false economy because by then, waiting another 6 months you’re likely to get a much better upgrade.

I’ve said it before but with only WiFi 6 being missing really (the CPU upgrade is not worth the wait) it’s never been a better time to buy.

Things like FaceID, Mini-LED screen, 10nm, revamped TouchBar etc are maybe 1-2 years away.

You’ll have a machine which beats XPS/Lenovo in both CPU and GPU performance (a better gaming machine even) - I don’t remember this ever being the case, EVER!

I disagree. This is an unusual situation because the 16”’s were released with the same cpus as the prior 15”. The jump to the 10th gen intel will be a large jump, and subsequent jumps will be smaller (for a couple years at least). So it makes the most sense to wait a few months now unless you absolutely need a new machine.

The 10th gen for 45W are the same 14nm process so no - you won’t see a big jump until 10nm which won’t be until 2021 at the earliest.

Over two years until we see a real new CPU. Next upgrade is Comet Lake, another YetAnotherLake 14nm processor. Due in spring. Recently confirmed on a leaked roadmap that the upgrade after that is Rocket Lake - another 14nm+++++++++++ YetAnotherLake. The early 2022 H-series processor is presumably either 10nm or 7nm...
