I've got this case for my iPod Touch:
http://www.amazon.com/DLO-HipCase-Leather-Folio-touch/dp/B000WOIFO2

I love the magnetic flip-over screen cover as it protects but gets completely out of the way to use the big, beautiful LCD. It's also small and nicely built and designed.

Anyway, the iPhone 3G has been on my mind and in researching, I have yet to find a good case for it that's similar in design to the DLO Folio.

It seems that the iPhone cases either protect just the back, leaving the screen wide-open all the time, or are a design where you slip the phone into a sleeve with an ugly plastic window between you and the screen. For example, a friend has a Marware from the Apple store and the plastic screen window sticks in some places to the screen and bubbles in others (it's a sleeve type design). It looks like crap IMHO.

The Sena MagnetFlipper looks like it makes the phone much bulkier than the DLO does for the Touch, but that's probably the most similar case I've been able to find. I know the iPhone is a bit thicker, but just looking at the detailed photos for the Sena case, it looks really thicker than it needs to be.

I want to be able to use the screen without the plastic interference, but still want to be able to protect it when not in use. Has anyone seen a good 3G case that's similar to my beloved DLO Hipcase Folio?

Thanks!
Mike

Im in the same boat as you.

I've been searching all over the internet for those kinds of cases. Your DLO touch case is exactly what I would want for the iPhone. They are hard to find though...

I really like this case but the price tag is a little high for a case
http://cases.com/pfai3g.htm (snap closure)
http://cases.com/pfai3gm.htm (magnet closure)

http://cases.com/iphone-3g.htm you can go here to look at other cases, they have one like the flip up style but it flips horizontally like a wallet. Offers the same protection.

not sure if this one is 3g compatible

I dot have my 3g iPhone yet but I may just spend the extra money and get the Piel Frama when I get it.

I would appreciate anyone else with info on these types of cases would chime in.

Hope I helped!

Thanks Eric - that Piel Frama does look like a very close match! $70, though.. geesh... I e-mailed DLO and made a suggestion that they create a Folio type case for the 3G. I don't have much hope, but you never know ;)

Edit: Now that I look at it, the iquase one looks very much like what I want. I like that they have the cut-out for the proximity sensor, ratchet swivel, etc. And, $40 is pretty reasonable IMO, assuming it's 3G compatible. If not, hopefully they fix the comments about the looseness in the new 3G version.

Thanks - yes, your info is very helpful!

Best Buy sells DLO stuff. I just bought a rubber cover for mine and a charger.

I had that DLO case for my touch as well - the flip with the orange stripe - loved it and WANT it for my iPhone. I ended up with a Marware CEO flip case - it's close BUT it's got velcro to close the flap where the DLO had magnets. That annoys me cause the velcro is pretty loud and I have a tendency to play with the flap. I could do it quietly before. Not so much now. :(

Also, Beyza does make a flip but it's sort of a multi-type flip.

I had initially ordered a sleeve from them for my touch so I'm pondering this one.

The marware case was the first one of these I saw, but I didnt like the grey inside or the velcro.

I think it may be awhile before we see more of the flip style cases for the 3g. The old iPhone has a bunch of different options (check cases.com).

Heres a similar case I kinda like that I just stumbled upon
http://www.ebcases.com/-strse-3404/eNOVO-iPhone3G-r-fdsh-clip/Detail.bok

ebcases also has one for the old iPhone called the "slipper" on their apple page. If that ever comes out for the 3g I might get it...

EDIT: just saw that the ebcases are on cases.com and were part of the ones i was referring to when i said to check...

I have found a flip case for the 3G that is pretty close to the DLO case. It is made by Young Micro and sold on Amazon.

The web address is http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPhone-...sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1218297187&sr=8-3

The only thing I wish was different is I would like the magnetic closer instead of the snap closer that is on this one. One nice thing is, the belt clip rotates so you can choose how to wear it.
