So I know you guys really don't care, but I don't really have any friends who are Mac users. I've had a 2020 MacBook Pro M1 13" for quite a few years. I would still have it now too. However, it randomly stopped receiving a charge from out of the box charger or from any other. The usb-c ports worked for everything else. Once the battery dried out it became a paperweight. My assumption is that the power supply must have burnt out, which has to be very pricey to fix as everything is on the logic board now.

I looked up the trade in value for it if it did turn on and it was only worth a couple hundred bucks, and obviously worth 0 considering it won't turn on now,

A couple of days ago I purchased the M4 MacBook Air 15" and I freaking love it!!. It's so light even compared to my last Mac. I don't miss the Touch Bar. I never had a 15" MacBook and it really makes a huge difference. The notch is taking some getting used to. I had some menu bar icons disappear on me and I was like WTF? I have Bartender now.

I honestly thought when I got the M1 MacBook Pro that a computer couldn't get any faster and I'd have it for forever, and look at me now.

Also, the midnight color, even though it's taking some getting used to is growing on me. At first I was like "okay it's a black computer, how creative" but the nuance is growing on me.

Yeah, we’re truly in a great hardware era for Apple!

If you already purchased Barkeeper, no worries, but there’s a great open source alternative these days:

There was some kerfuffle about Barkeeper changing owners — I’m not actually up to date if there was ever a resolution to this situation. But I’ve been happily using Ice ever since!

They're such great laptops, and the fact that the M1 still performed so well for day to day tasks bodes well for the M4.

Apple can still fix your M1. I would get an estimate. If they can fix it for less than $250 you will get more for that selling it on Swappa or eBay.

I wonder, I plan on doing light gaming, and while it hasn't been an issue so far, if it were to step it up to more graphically intense games, how beneficial would a laptop cooler be (not sure if that's what they're called, but you set your laptop on it and it sucks the hot air out)?

Also, random comment, but whose freaking idea was it to make the MagSafe cable match the MacBook except for the USB-C end? It looks so stupid!

I've had my 15" MBA for about a month and find myself having to relearn the Mac operating system and such. It's been over 25 years since I used one in the office environment. Other than the relearning, I'm loving my MBA!
Question - what is this "notch" you mentioned having to get used to? The only physical notch I'm not really feeling good about is the one in front of the lower half. Those corners are too danged sharp!

Have to agree with the above comments. I originally ordered a custom MacBook Pro 14" , but returned it and got the 15" MacBook Air (fully optioned) - its simply such an amazing laptop with almost no compromises (wish it had an SD card slot) - but zero regrets.

It is so enjoyable to use. The MacBook Pro is a powerhouse, but it always feels like a compromise when using it - weight and size. Again. also a phenomenal laptop with specific use purpose.

But the Air - perfect computer, perfect daily, perfect do-everything laptop. I have had MacBook Air's (and Pros) since the first Air. This laptop is the best computer I have ever owned (and I am not just saying that from a "power / performance" point of view which obviously improves with each generation.

2025 MacBook Air is phenomenal.
