So I have a 27" iMac for which I bought a 128 gig Thunderbolt SSD in the past in hopes of improving speeds. It was great at first but I made the mistake of simply moving applications and a few other files to do the migration/install back in the Lion (or was it Mountain Lion) days. I also did not enable Trim. Well, over time, the damn drive got slower and fuller and the system started having issues like not sleeping...ever.
When Mavericks came out, I did a test install on the SSD by partitioning and booting a clean copy. I was shocked at how fast my system was now and went about wiping the SSD and doing a clean install. With all data on the internal HDD, rebuilding the SSD was incredibly easy. As soon as I installed an app, it was ready to go with all settings/preferences as they were before.
Mavericks has been great ever since. No complaints. Quick load time and startups. Just awesome.
If you are having any issues, I highly recommend the clean install route.
