Low 3G signal along with a strong Edge signal causes phone to go straight to voicemai

I thought 2.1 would fix this :(

I have to disable 3G, otherwise I'll get a low 3G signal and if I try to call my phone, it will go to voicemail about 80% of the time. Once 3G is disabled, EDGE takes over and my phone receives all calls.

Very frustrating because when I'm away from home obviously I want 3G enabled without having to go into settings to enable it.
