So I am a new iPhone user coming from android and have a question about how and when I should be charging the phone. I am a pretty light user and I am amazed at how much battery I have left at the end of the day usually somewhere between 80 and 90%. I’m used to charging my android phone nightly and was wondering if I should be doing the same thing with the iPhone? I know there is the optimize battery setting which should make things pretty seamless, but I wasn’t sure if I should be plugging my phone in every night if I’m already at above 80%.
Based on online research I am seeing different opinions as to whether one should charge their phone every night or not. I wasn’t sure if anything changed the equation if I had a lot of battery left over.

Lithium batteries don't like very high and very low states of charge. If you have very low usage and really want to optimize battery life, try keeping it between, say, 20 and 80% charged (i.e. only charge if you are running low, and disconnect before it's fully charged). But the benefit of micromanaging the battery is probably minor as long as you don't always keep it near 100%. If you use little power, you'll naturally have a low number of charging cycles which is good for the battery.

Hi, don’t worry your phone know what to do when it is to do.

the fear you must have is the temperature of your battery.

if your battery is hot, it will damage it faster.

so make charge as you want, even all night long, and even micro charge, everything will be okay.

A good rule of thumb to follow is plug in the phone when it drops below 65%, not before…. Unless you know you’ll need a full charge in the future.

If you’re only using 20 to 25% of the battery in a day, it’s much better to only charge it to 75-80% instead of 100%.

But micromanaging charge levels can drive you crazy- so just plug it in overnight & forget it … unless you want to buy a HomeKit compatible SmartPlug and program it with the shortcuts app to turn off & on at your desired iPhone battery level setting.

As a basic starter I’d say check how expensive a battery replacement is with Apple in your country so you have a reference point. I generally speaking leave the optimised charging in place and am ok with the results.
