So, I had Low Power Mode enabled on my M2 MacBook Air (running the latest versions of macOS) for a while, but then decided to turn it off.

However, whenever I unplug my MacBook, I get the following notification:

This has been going on for a while, so there have been several reboots after various updates, etc., since I turned this off. Any idea as to why this won't actually turn off, or is there a different way to disable this? I searched System Settings and do not see any other options to toggle for this.

What application is giving you that notification?
Looks like a macOS system notification. Never thought anything of it when I had Low Power Mode on (when unplugged), but find it odd that it's still popping up even though this feature is turned off, leading me to believe that it's still turned on.

I'm not sure that it is. I use Low Power mode on my Mac, and I've never seen that notification. If you click on the battery icon in the menubar, that'll tell you if Low Power Mode is on.

Can you share your applications folder and/or your login items. I dont remember ever seeing this on a Mac with a recent version of MacOS. I use to see this notification on BigSur on retina macbook pro's back in the day when I was managing 200+ macs.

But, since M series, low power and high power mode, I have never seen a "Energy Saver" notification. I even check my M3 Macbook Air for any mention of this in any system files or plist and didnt find it.

I am curious if its an installed application or "helper app" that might've transitioned over in a migration / backup and you either forgot about it or didnt know it was installed.

Low power / high power mode will never give you this notification. The notification I usually get for low power mode, either on or off usually says "low power mode" in the notification. I have never seen it say "energy saver" in any of the notifications. I usually have low power turn on at 15% on my air and 20% on my M1 Pro so I have seen the notification enough.

Most notifications in MacOS are unified. So any app can send you a notification and most of the time, it'll feel like a natural MacOS notification. I have iStat Menu's and a few other apps that I allow notifications for and most of the time, they come in and look like normal MacOS notification.

By design this is what SHOULD happen and only the icon should tell you its from a specific "app"

Do you have Parallels Toolbox installed? A Google image search of that notification suggests it's coming from that.

Omg, yes, that's it! It's Parallels Toolbox! I rarely open Parallels these days and didn't even realize that this was running as there is a hidden (Bartender) menu icon. So this message just means that Parallels will reduce energy in open Windows sessions, has nothing to do with macOS. I'm an idiot. Thank you!

Thank you for all the info and insights. Even though Parallels was the culprit here, I've gained a lot of knowledge from your posts!

No...it has to do with reducing energy in macOS. Parallels Toolbox is an optional install and has nothing to do with Parallels Desktop (Windows and/or your other VMs). While it does have some useful tools, some people consider it to be bloatware.

There are two versions of Parallels Toolbox. One for Mac (which is what you're using), and one for Windows (intended for Windows PCs, not VMs).

This KB article lists what the Energy Saver tool does on the Mac.

Ah, good to know. Thank you. I didn't even realize I had it on auto-start since I have so many menu icons hidden. I just disabled it from starting up in the background - definitely don't need this running!
